advertisement

A deal with Bill Clinton over his post-White House work helped clear the way for Hillary Rodham Clinton to join President-elect Barack Obama's national security team as secretary of state.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

You're right. Why would any president in his or her right mind want the advice and experience of a past president, someone who is respected by countries worldwide and has a vast amount of knowledge pertaining to foreign affairs?

I don't think he's going to be in and out of the White House on a regular basis. In any event, get a grip.

Bill did not cause the years of distraction.  The Republican party concentrated so much on bedroom politics during the Clinton administration, they failed to do their jobs.

Remember, Ken Starr wanted to quit the investigation and the Republicans refused to let him.  Some people wondered if Ken Starr had a problem because of his fixation on Bill Clinton's sex life.

Of course, it turned out that many of the Republicans were involved in the same sexual antics as Clinton.

rjf123,

So you believe Bill and Monica caused 9/11?  That is a very interesting concept, you may be the only one in the world to make that connection.

 Dorris,

That's different if Newt and the boys were doing the same thing they were only Congress.  I believe rjf123 nailed the cause of 9/11.  The only thing that bothers me is that was Bill still President or was it Obama?  I believe Bill also caused the war in Iraq because of monica.

I think rjf123 point was that Clinton's lack of a response the first WTC attack, or the embassy attacks in Africa, or the attack on the USS Cole gave Bin laden the confidence he needed to proceed with 911.  Maybe, just maybe if the previous attacks were addressed, 911 might not have happened.

I think where Bill was dipping in the ink well is alot less impeachable than invading a forgien country under the pretense of WMD. With Bill we know what we are getting and if he is willing to keep himself in check long enough to get us out of this horrible Republican mess then we need to accept help, from every corner.

Tell me, how many republicans are stepping out on a limb to help, that have the proven track record of getting things done. Sure don't see Bushy boy or his little dog Cheney helping do you?

Nope...and never will. They are republicans, rape and go......

Conservative Democrat has a good point.

Biil Clinton ( Wee Wee Willie ) does have foreign affairs experience.

Adulterous Bill Clinton also had affairs as Arkansas governor ( Jennifer Flowers is one example ).

He had affairs while planning to marry the wicked witch.

It has been said he also got young black girls pregnant.

We all know or should know about his whitehouse affair with Monica Lewinski ( in the oval office ).

We know about his attempts to fool around with Paula Jones, Kat Wiley, etc.

YUP !  Bill Clinton has an extensive history in the foreign and domestic affairs department.

Conservative Democrat !

We can assume that he had an affair with the wicked witch at least once.

I support Barack Obama and despite what anyone might think, the economy did not suffer during the Clinton Administration years and both Bill and Hillary are very knowledgeable individuals and beneficial to Barack Obama in countless ways that are positive. Bill Clinton was a far better president than out current one, despite his affair with.... That's personal and did not disrupt his ability to run this country.

Rick, the majority of the people chose Barack Obama for president and it is obvious you weren't one of them.  The reason he won the election has much to do with how Obama ran his campaign and I can imagine he'll run the White House the same and ultimately be a successful president just as he proved to be a candidate. Additionally, he not only spoke about "change" but "unity" as well.  Unity does not necessarily implicate choosing or working with individuals one likes and can only get along with.  Sometimes it means working with individuals who are suitable candidates that share commonalities and could offer new ideas...innovation...required to get the job done, which means you may or may not like the person(s). Therefore, I understand Barack Obama's administration selection, which by the way is consistent with his message of unity and change and everything else he pontificated throughout this election.

economy did not suffer during the Clinton Administration years

perhaps you missed the dot-com bubble bursting, resulting in the loss of nearly $4trillion dollars in net assets, over half of it retirement funds?  or the recession the incoming president inherited?  or the beginning of outsourcing to foreign countries, of US jobs? (Dep't of Commerce, US Chamber of Commerce, WSJ, NAM) a cap gains rate that resulted in nil, or close to nil, of cap gains revenue until W cut the rate again? (IRS income bulletins)

yep, we want to duplicate that, don't we?

wildweasel - I sincerely doubt Bill Clinton is responsible in any way for the dot.com bubble bursting - nobody saw this one coming, it was just one of those natural progressions in life.

By-the-way the dot-com bubble burst did hurt people who flew into risky stocks - I never invested in them because they were very very speculative - only the risky investors got taken in that bubble - everyone else came out fine with DIVERSIFIED portfolios - I have no bad feelings for those that went 100% speculative stocks and got hurt - everyone with sense should know you should diversify your portfolios and not concentrate in one area unless you want to take the risk....

Hillary Clinton's qualifications to be Secretary of State:

Hillary graduated from Wellesley College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, with departmental honors in political science.

In early 1968, she was elected president of the Wellesley College Government Association.

Rodham then entered Yale Law School, where she served on the editorial board of the Yale Review of Law and Social Action.  During her second year, she worked at the Yale Child Study Center, learning about new research on early childhood brain development and working as a research assistant on the seminal work, Beyond the Best Interests of the Child (1973).  She also took on cases of child abuse at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

During her post-graduate study, Rodham served as staff attorney for Edelman's newly founded Children's Defense Fund in Massachusetts, and as a consultant to the Carnegie Council on Children.

Following her husband's November 1978 election as Governor of Arkansas, Hillary became First Lady of Arkansas in January 1979, her title for a total of twelve years (1979–1981, 1983–1992). Bill appointed her chair of the Rural Health Advisory Committee the same year, where she successfully expanded medical facilities in Arkansas's poorest areas without affecting doctors' fees.

In 1993, Hillary was appointed to head and be the chairwoman of the Task Force on National Health Care Reform, hoping to replicate the success she had in leading the effort for Arkansas education reform. It was a comprehensive proposal that would require employers to provide health coverage to their employees through individual health maintenance organizations.

1994 midterm elections, which saw a net Republican gain of fifty-three seats in the House and seven in the Senate, winning control of both; which was a major factor in the defeat of Hillary's Health Care plan.

The First Lady worked to investigate reports of an illness that affected veterans of the Gulf War , which became known as the Gulf War Syndrome.  Together with Attorney General Janet Reno, Clinton helped create the Office of Violence Against Women at the Department of Justice. In 1997, she initiated and shepherded the Adoption of Safe Families Act, which she regarded as her greatest accomplishment as First Lady. In 1999, she was instrumental in passage of the Foster Care Independence Act, which doubled federal monies for teenagers aging out of foster care.

As First Lady, Clinton hosted numerous White House conferences, including ones on Child Care (1997), on Early Childhood Development and Learning (1997), and on Children and Adolescents (2000). She also hosted the first-ever White House Conference on Teenagers (2000) and the first-ever White House Conference on Philanthropy (1999).

Hillary Clinton traveled to 79 countries during this time.

Clinton has served on five Senate committees:

Committee on Budget (2001–2002), Committee on Armed Services (since 2003),Committee on Environment and Public Works (since 2001),Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (since 2001)and Special Committee on Aging. She is also a Commissioner of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (since 2001). As Democratic Committee Outreach Vice Chair, she is the ninth-ranking Democrat in the Senate.

Hillary for Sec/State and Bill for Barack's "wingman" on the DC party circuit!  Or call it "How I Met Your Mother - Washington, DC".

However, as a disgusted Republican (disgusted with what became of my Party), all I can say is that Slick Willie's sexual escapades are a lot less damaging to the country than so much of what this recent and overtly "moral" Administration perpetuated.  After all, "thou shalt not steal" and "thou shalt not kill" and "thou shalt not bear false witness" are all ahead of not coveting one's neighbor's wife on the big, old list of "Don't Do's".   Funny how those so in favor of posting the 10 Commandments are so immune to their message...

Let's see, where to start...

1.  Clinton lied to a grand jury, that was unacceptable.  Why he was in a position to lie is also unacceptable.  The people had no business invading the privacy of a matter that was between a husband/father and his wife/daughter.  It had nothing to do with the leadership of the country.

2.  Bush has lied to the American people about subjects that are the business of the people.  His transgressions far exceed President Clinton.  Its amazing that you will continue to disrespect and over react to Pres. Clinton's transgression, and continue to down play the numerous illegal and unconstitutional activities of Bush.

3.  When PE Obama is actually the acting President and has the authority to make changes then your complaints might have some credibility and honesty to them.  First you make silly and immature comments (whines) about his being to partisan in his selections.  Well, he has Gates and Jones nominated so you need a new whine.  That is the too much of the same, no changes.  You know as well as anyone that change doesn't mean throwing out everything that works, change is when you rid yourself of the things that DON'T work.  One significant change in this proposed cabinet is the lack of yes men and women and no Cheney pulling the strings.  Its a good mix of experienced, new blood and incredibly qualified individuals.  You whining has become white noise.

4.  The response by Pres. Clinton was based in part on the intelligence (???) presented by both the FBI and the CIA.  Bush certainly did nothing to locate bin Laden or to eliminate the terrorist threat until AFTER 9/11.  He didn't even hold any discussions on bin Laden for 9 or so months after taking office. So I'd tone down the attacks unless you want to spread the guilt to all guilty parties.

5.  'tired and old' your stupid rumors and unfounded insinuations are tired and old, if you don't think FOX News and other far right ultra conservative (see: fascist) organizations could find out about any other children Pres. Clinton fathered and interrupt programing to scream it to the masses then you're nuts.

6.  Clinton increased military spending more than anyone since Reagan.  $288 billion in 2000 alone.  The only spending allocations that he criticized were pork-barrel requests added by Republican members of Congress:  a long list of special projects requested by legislators, ranging from $1.5 million for research on chronic fatigue syndrome to $4 million for desert tortoise research in California.  He said the bill also failed to fund a key chemical weapons destruction facility in Russia, and fails to provide the requested funding level for a joint strike fighter and an amphibious ship program.

7.   I have searched the internet to find any information on Clinton closing down CIA operations in Africa and the Middle east.  Nothing...not even on FOX News.

8.  Again, I search the internet and not one of 11 sources (conservative included) placed the blame on Washington.

9.  There isn't one economist who lays the blame for the current recession on Pres. Clinton.  For the record, Reagan was the promoter of deregulation, in a big way.

10. The blame for the outsourcing of jobs can be spread around, from its first big rush during Reagan's administration, to its most recent and consistent exodus of jobs during the last 8 years.

11.  Let's see.  Since Bush has been in office we can't travel to most foreign countries and feel safe because he has alienated most of them with his heavy handed demands and actions without consulting all involved.  He has demonstrations against him just about everywhere he travels.  His lack of intelligence is legendary around the world.  How often has he embarrassed himself and our country with his lack of tact, knowledge and multiple ignorant comments.  The man can't even pronounce nuclear!

clinton gutted the military. if there was any increase in pentagon spending, it was pure pork, not in assets, supplies, materiel, readiness, etc. as for the agency closing ops in africa and the mideast...don't know about that but months after the '93 WTC bombing he did away with the africa and mideast desks (analysts, not ops).  we were left to depend on allies for intel in those regions.

deregulation was started under carter; reagan just took the shackles off and allowed American businesses to compete.  as for banking deregulation, google 'ferdinand st james'.

outsourcing took off in the '90s due to punitive tax schemes launched by the administration that put our manufacturing firms at a competitive disadvantage vis a vis our european and asian competitors. (dep't of commerce, NAM, US chamber of commerce, conference board). looking at the same sources, more jobs are returning the past 6 years than are leaving.  why isn't that in the news?

I am sure Hillary can't wait to get in the middle of what's going on in the world today.  Secretary of State is high profile.  It gives her additional street cred when/if she runs for president again.

Don't believe that the idea of becoming president is not securely hiding in the back of her mind-- "one day, one way or the other."

I believe H. Clinton is a very good choice, but there were others that would have  been also. She is well qualified for the job. As for change just look at those he has chosen for different jobs. All very intelligent people. Not all agree with him on all things, but he also said he wants people that will exchanged idea's, so there would be different ideas put forth to solve problems. Pres. elect Obama, is a very strong person and will control all. He will think and put ideas togather. This is what an intelligent person does, not just go ahead and say "this is what I want and that is that" He will not just jump into something without the facts. He has shown that through out his campaign, and is doing so now, putting to gather intelligent people with experience in the field where he put them. Bring ideas to the table, to discuss. He will be and is for the people. He will be ready to take off running on day one. He isn't president yet as Bush is, so not much he can do except get the program mapped out and be ready to go day one. He is a very organized man. He will with his cabinet be able to regain the respect we have lost in the world and set this country on the right tract. It will be a very difficult job and things will be worse before better economically. If we work with him it will happen. Our country is in a mess right now and our reputation is not good around the world.Look at the man , he can do it with our help. The change has started even though he isn't president yet. He is picking people from different sides , looking for people who are intelligent. Not looking at race or religon.

I hope so because if no one has noticed the change that everyone is talking about is Black/Latinos being finally inducted before we overrun our country with Indian and chinese demographics that are already off to a good start with immigrating in 24months and being middle class by 48 months. With all the rewritting of history that is going on in order to justify political and social agendas I don't know how it could ever be explained that latinos came in last even to new arrivals. When they get there turn before 2042 everything will be remembered so If I were Obama I would tread lightly because times always will and always do change.

have faith the country is being given away by mr b NOCHANGE. Anyways, the democrats have now done even a worse job than the bush administration in terms of setting up the country for future inflation, declines in productivity, government waste through poor spending. The democrats havent shown anything different than the bush administration, perhaps showing even less understanding of the economy and how to right it over the long term. Its laughable, mr NOCHANGE gets elected on a policy of change, and he brings back many of the clintonites that america was only to happy to kick out of politics and elect bush. Whitebird et al. You are perfectly right. This BS of Clinton getting impeached over an under the desk tryst was stupid beyond words. Obama has picked the worlds greatest team to put the US back in the game. Those who continue to harp on HC and BC are only stickingtheir heads in the sand and refuse to admit it. Both of them together(albeit HC definitely has a mind and respect  of her own)  have the most viability in the entire world and they are both not only diplomats but represent what the world has to admit as sheer strength. I'm very impressed by the team he has put in place. NONE of THEM ARE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE WORLD. BUSH IS. Yes, I felt like I had to yell this. It just makes me sick for those who would continue to bring down the US at least by debasing O's choices. Jealousy rears it's ugly head I think because they didn't think of it first, GW never thought of it and I kind of wonder if they are professional bloggers.

Obama is already bought and sold; like everything else in this country that goes under the wire as Obama makes his selection it is also a representation of who actually owns this country in regards to an ethnic group. It would not be a full cabinet without and Italian at the helm, but its either that or we'll have more Italians at the state helms in a governership in a failed and bought and sold voting system.

So she lied to a Senate subcommittee about Whitewater - so what?  So she was exonerated in all of the suspicious deaths of her Whitewater co-conspirators - so what?  So her Whitewater dealings made her, her husband, and their co-conspirators  very rich while bankrupting the unsuspecting investors - so what?  So she carpet-bagged it to New York and those morons elected her - so what?  This woman should be in prison, not in political office.  She is deceitful and incredibly self-serving.  Didn't we as a nation make it perfectly clear that we don't want her?  So why is this sleazeball being shoved down our throats again?  What does she have on whom?

No, the Democratic party made it clear she wasn't the chosen Democratic candidate. If she had been selected as the Democratic candidate she would be our next president-elect, not Obama.

Like Slick Willie will actually reveal all donors...lol.  He will claim, if caught in yet another lie, that his definition and Obama's definition of 'contributions' are different.  Perhaps some of those were not really contributions, but pay-offs for certain favors granted, in which case he may decide they are not really donations and therefore do not need to be revealed.

Actually, I am anxious for his donor list to be given, then leaked.  I hope it does not include the names of scumballs that my mind has associated with Bill since 1995, when I first noticed something slightly sinister about him & his friends.

Weaver and the rest of your band of clowns: Obama made an excellent choice and no he won't kick her out in a year. Not only is she  very very very capable and better qualified, but is well known and respected whether you like it or not, around the world.

Plus Romney would not have pulled out of the race had he had the backing at all. Nice man, Secretary or Pres material...no.

And this stupid crap about her kicking Bill to the curb. Dumb butts were you even anywhere near aware of the worlds opinion of that very notion right along with the very Conservative citizens of the US you would know...that would be stupid, stupid.

And where did y'all get the idiotic idea HC wasn't electable? Her campaign was not thuoght out adn she had no control over them.  Obama did his. Should the opportunity come again for her to run...I'd do it without a backward glance

Get over it, get over yourselves, assist rather than betray and get in the way. That's very simple...get it?

Good Grief....anyone could do a better job, than GW Bush did, but I suppose there are those among us, who will gripe regardless of WHO is in office!  I'm no Hillary fan, nor am I a fan of her husband, however, if we can put up with a BOZO who spent our money on 2 wars, and leaves the White House with the most liberal record in 28 years, of any President who spent our money, as if we were all living aboard Yachts in the Mediterranean...then why not spend your time working on some kind of Class Action Lawsuit against the man and the Administration that has our Grandchildren in debt to their retirement years?   There's where your energy should be channeled instead of trying to second guess what anyone coming into Office will be like, or what the future would be like, 2 yrs from now.   If the American people were so smart, as to predict the Future, even 30 days from today, how is it they all elected a President who would cost them their jobs and homes?   That's not very bright of them...and yet when things began to fall apart, no one bothered to Impeach this person? Still not very bright, and those who scream the loudest, have probably never picked up a pen, and written a Senator, or Representative and let them know they are displeased?  Too busy watching America's Got Talent, or Dancing with the Stars,Football, Baseball, Golf on TV, but none have even bothered to read the Federal Register, to learn what to expect, and being distracted by all the nonsense, and dumbing down of America, that the media feeds them, to even care.

There will be so many problems to keep this NEW Administration working, long into the night, to figure out a way to get this Country back on her feet, that they may have Bill running their errands to scarf up Sandwiches, and coffee, to keep the team awake.  You have no inside information, other than the biased news media, drooling for "ratings" as to what his role will be, as the husband to the Secretary of State....for all you know, she might have him drafted into the Air Force, to go work in Afghanistan, hunting for Bin Laden....and he would be too busy to interfere in anything she does.  Just a thought, since everyone is guessing anyway.

How can you possibly set yourselves up as Judge and Jury on anyone this President elect chooses, when you have no clue how they will perform their duties.    If you want to complain, for the sake of complaining, at least have the common sense to give them the first 100 days, so that your complaints have credibility.    At this point, you are only "guessing" about the future, or what they will all do, and the last I knew, none of you are full time Clairvoyants.   I don't claim to be, I would rather let them in, see how they do, and if they don't do better, then use the 7 letter word IMPEACH.    It is still our Country, no matter who thinks they can lead, and if we start going in the wrong direction, again, then it will be time to use what the law allows us to do....get rid of them.   For now, take a deep breath, give them a chance, and see what you think, when things get better, or perhaps  worse.   If they get worse, then lets all meet back here, and gripe all we want to. Deal?

Watch the impeach encouragement--Republicans will impeach for anything the Democrats do, but not when a Republican really needed to be kicked out.  2 times now (and 1 questionable), they have not impeached a Republican president that did far more than Clinton ever did.

The true unemployment rate is currently 14%-15%. If you can't understand reasons for the falsity of the government released unemployment figures you don't have a clue as to how they arrived at that particular figure.

Bob, you continuously make comments about things you know absolutely nothing about. How many investment newsletters do you subscribe to? How many financial articles do you read on a daily basis? Is the extent of your knowledge gained from participating in discussion groups?

The government issued unemployment rate does not include those who have exhausted their unemployment benefits, or those who do not have enough work credits to qualify, or the self-employed and business owners who don't contribute to the unemployment funds and therefore cannot collect.

I don't have to prove anything to someone who is not willing to educate himself. It's such a simple thing to educate yourself, Bob. Try using a search box or visit your local library. You'll then realize the falsity of the government released figures and be on your way to learning something you don't currently know.

I have to have complete faith in Obama in what I percieve as a bad choice. I gave him my support in the election and will have to bite the bullet with this one. Have to trust he knows what he is doing. Boy, this is hard.........

I agree, I like Obama, but this choice has me puzzled. I dont think she is the right person to be the head diplomat. Particularly, with the current state of affairs in the world today. Colin Powell would have been an excellent choice. There are others within the State Dept. who could probably perform the job. Mostly you want someone with very strong foreign relations experience, but also someone with a certain level of reserve and judgement in handling negotiations. When I think of Hillary,s comment { I will blow Iran off of the face of the Earth if they attack Israel} that doesn,t strike me as showing good judgement.

It shows extremely good judgement to me. It lets the Iranian government idiots know exactly where she stands and what will happen if Iran attacks Israel. If the day comes that Iran is ignorant enough to attack Israel Iran will see an immediate response from the United States.

What people in this country fail to recognize is that the rest of the world still love and respect the Clintons.  They thought we were insane to have a problem with his personal life while he was in office as this is not something that is looked at that closely in Europe.  Hillary will have the ear of leaders throughout the world and their respect.  She has a head start on anyone else that could have been named to be Secretary of State.  And, she will be much more respected than Condoleeza Rice who is just a "yes" person to George Bush.  Obama has made excellent choices so far and certainly has a stronger group than George Bush has ever put together!

trco--you have lost more freedoms and liberty under Bush than at any other time in America!  The guns are still there--ALL OF THEM,

And if "you people"  have anything to do with it, Men convicted of Domestic violence will once again be allowed to keep multiple guns.  Automatic weapons that kill dozens of kids and cops will continue to sell for trophies.

Be careful about what you wish for this country because of your arrogance.

                                  NOT!

Once the guns are gone- It is TOTALLY OVER- they can do anything.

To tell you the truth, at this point if they came marching in to collect all the guns..

your going to have to take me out cause there is nothing left to live for..... If I take a few out, so be it.... I dont really think were going to have much if anything to look foward to in a couple..maybe not even ...Years...

Mike, if you feel that this is Obama's first big mistake you are really blind.

How about 20 years with a racist preacher?

How about starting a political career with a terrorist?

How about wanting to share the wealth?

Obama has made many mistakes.  Personally I feel he hired on Clinton so he could get some on the job training.  After he's done learning a few things, he'll throw her under the bus like he does everybody else.

To Winger:  You clearly have serious personal problems and should probably be seeing someone to get help.  After eight years of Bush and you dear Republicans sending our country into a tailspin, Obama's choices are a great relief.  He has tapped people with intelligence and experience.  He is making great choices and has been impressing knowledgeable people - including many top Republicans - with the choices he has made.

Now it's time for you to call a good therapist - you clearly need help!

On one hand I also question this decision, but on the other hand, I can see the benefit of putting Hillary Clinton in this position. The part of this decision I question is how free the Clintons will be in disclosing names of donors and other information about the foundation. I also question Hillary Clinton's ability to yield to the president when necessary. Pres. Elect Obama has already demonstrated that he is not the type to hold grudges. In spite of the differences between him and the Clintons, I believe he made this decision in the best interest of the country. The Clintons are well liked around the world. Hillary Clinton can use her notoriety as a foundation to rebuild damaged international relationships and develop new ones. This is why I believe Pres. Elect Obama selected her. He is able to see the big picture.

I am shocked that Hillary is taking the post. It basically says she will not make a run in 2012. Yes I said 2012. We have had others challenge a sitting President within the same party in our past.

I did not vote for Nobama and his "change" message. But I feel nothing has or will change. People screamed at Bush 43 for bringing in some of Bushs 41 people in. i have not read or heard the same outrage on Nobama.

Time will tell. All we can do is watch and see. Keep our eyes open and if we do not like what happens we have 2010 for Congressional vote and 2012 to make a change again.

                                      Peace.....

I think Hillary will be a great SoS and I don't think that will stop her from pursuing the presidency in 2012 or 2016.  People keep saying this takes her out of the running.  I don't think she should be underestimated.

As every friend and foe have said about the Clintons, "they eat, sleep, drink, and crap" politics.  It's all about power.  The Democratic Nomination looked more like a "Hillary show" than nominating Obama.  The President-elect will soon learn what Al Gore learned as Vice-president.  He'll have to get up early to beat her to the chair in the Oval Office.

I think that Obama. Michelle, Hillary and Bill represent perhaps the most intelligent people ever in that position.  Their success or failure will not be based on intelligence.  It will be based on character, values and judgement.  What scares me is that eventhough these people are so intelligent, the have been caught up in the many issues including the following issues

Barak - Rev Wright, Bill Ayers, missing birth certificate, campaign funds switch aroo

Michelle - "never proud of this country"

Clintons - impeachment, Monica, Whitewater, travel staff

I voted for McCain, not because he was more intelligent (he isn't) but because he held honor and this country above everything, even his life.  I'm not sure of Obama and Clinton's values.

Lynn, I will keep my mind open on Obama's performance as President.  His success means this nation's success.  We could do worse than Bush, we could be a nation defenseless against terrorism like India, Pakistan, Britain, Spain, etc.  Bush has spent an enormous amount of money rebuilding the military, very much contributing to this economic problem.  I don't like the deficit and borrowing from foreign countries, but I understand it.  The economy is also bad because of policies of past administration and a general public view that everyone has a right to own a house and in some cases a much bigger house than required.  I believe Bush did what he thought was right for this country.  I am concerned about the motives of the Clintons and the Obamas.  I am not concerned about the birth certificate issue, I am concerned that IT IS an issue.  It shouldn't be.

Hummm. Do you think McCain's first wife would agree? Ever heard of the Keating 5? Maybe you missed that part of history class.

Lar, time for you to do your homework.

Bush did what he thought was right for this country? OMG!!! He did what was "RIGHT" for his crony friends and the right wing-not for me, not for you and for sure not for my family members that are on their 3rd and 4th tours in this "war on Terror".

Get over it! We can NEVER  EVER do worse than Bush/Cheney.

Bring on the new administration. I am eager to see what they do. Hillary too.

I don't have to do my homework, he was exonerated in 90 or 91. He made some bad decisions about attending some meetings, but didn't do anything wrong.  Even Clinton's attorneys said he was innocent.  Did you know he was exonerated?

Now, are you familiar with the fact that he was close to death from injuries when he was offered a trip home from the Hanoi Hilton, but refused because of his sense of honor.  He would have been a propaganda tool.  That is not opinion.  He placed honor and this nation above his own life.  Don't criticize a great man you know little about.

As far as Bush doing for his crony friends, that is the opinion of his opponents.  There is no fact there.  But fact is, we have not been attacked on this soil since 9/11, and don't start the "Bush is responsible for 9/11" because that reasoning is like blaming Lincoln for slavery.  Bush is not the most intelligent president we had,  Carter was a lot smarter.  Do you consider him a successful President.  You might even blame the current Middle East situation on him and Warren Christopher for sparking Shiite Khomeinism in Iran, and subsequently in the region.

I thank you and your family for volunteering to serve this country.  History will prove, in my opinion, that the war on terrorism was correctly handled by Bush and you family sounds to be contributing.

McCain received money and all kinds of perks form Keating. His wife Cindy and her fam were also involved in business deals with Keating. You need to do some actual research.

I won't even get into McCain cheating on and divorcing a faithful wife to marry a rich heiress with a politically well connected family.

McCain talks loudly about honor but doesn't "walk the walk".

his nickname as a POW says it all (Songbird). Somebody who gave up air routes to the enemy and made propaganda tapes/films for better medical treatment while his fellow POW's aren't receiving any, is hardly the poster boy for honorable.

Daddy Admiral held his hand from college thruout his military career. McCain was probably ashamed to go home early and face daddy. According to other POW's, once McCain "sang" and was a recognized Admirals son, he recieved lenient treatment.

Thanks  MM and Lar, just because someone was a POW, does not mean that we should elect them President of the US.  He is and was a good man and soldier.  I admire and thank him for his service to our country.  He has been rewarded both in accolades and monetarily very well.  Now to get on with the work of getting this nation back on track.  The american people did not feel nor did they elect John McCain to do that.  That doesn't mean he is dumb, bad or anything.  He was not elected, he remains a senator from Arizona in the US Senate.  And truthfully, he will have the easier job, than Obama.  Why anyone would want to do this, is beyond me.  We have stood by for 8 years, full well knowing that George W. was not doing what needed to be done, taking us into a war, under false pretenses and now we are reaping the havoc that he has led us into.  He will go down as one of the worst, and history will prove that.  And as for terrorism, just look around, terrorists can be here and do things, any day that they choose.  If you think that Bush made us safer, you are wrong.  We visited NYC 2 yrs. ago, and they have really bulked up protection around the statue of liberty, ellis island and other such sites.  The poople of NYC said, we do not worry about them attackiing these places, as they mean nothing to them, only to us.  They will attack where it will hurt us the most, financially.  Bush's war, has set us back so much in relationships with other countries and the people of this world.  We are a global economy now, and this financial crisis shows that.  I just hope that they see it for what it was.  An ineffective President, who would not listen, and kept on his own course, regardless of the consequences.

Lar:  What nonsense.  There is no missing birth certificate - it has been authenticated and shows he was born in the U.S.  McCain begged for Hagee's endorsement - do you not remember the minister who said that Katrina was Gods way of getting rid of gays?   McCain lost his honor when he ran an absolutely disgusting campaign and showed he had no idea of what is going on in the economy.  Michelle Obama explained her remarks very clearly and to most people's satisfaction - but you really don't care about the truth do you?  Let's talk about Bush's christianity - killing hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi's to settle a score for his father and for oil.  You don't have a leg to stand on.  Obama is a great choice for president.  He ran an honorable campaign; has more intelligence than the entire Bush administration; has chosen his staff wisely - looking at what is needed and selecting the best people for the job.  He is doing a great job and will prove it in the first two years of his administration.  Of course it will take that long to correct the mess Bush and his cronies have gotten us into.

I am not upset with Bill for being unfaithful to his wife.  A simple apology would have made been fine.  Instead, we were blessed with the sight of him lying through his 'pearly whites', as he was shown swearing he did not have sex with Monica.  Then after he was caught lying under oath, he claimed his definition of sex was 'different'.  Children were listened repeatedly to his claims, shown on TV, that BJ's are not sex.  Therefore when a child is asked if she ever had sex, she is perfectly right to say 'no', if it was only oral sex.  That is what all children who watched TV news or read neewpapers learned from our Slick Willie.

Trash?  Yep. Wish Obama would clean it up instead of collecting it.  Many of his followers voted against the Clintons, not because they wanted them back in the White House.

The focus or the spotlight is not Bill Clinton, unless you are pushing your agenda. We should be talking about the type of Secretary of State Hillary will be. Both sides of the political parties have dirt and huge closets of skeletons.  I think Hillary will do just fine.

                                                  DarinD

My comment was mostly in response to that of Emma's, who brought Bill into this spotlight when she commented, "...so funk off all of you who say things about this poor man...Lets embrace the Clintons in the White House once again".  I just got tired of listening to people who seem to think all the trouble in Clinton's administration was due to a simple BJ, which Hilary forgave.  Emma said, "...Bill was what he was did what he did but if Hilary forgave him so can America."  I don't recall Hillary saying she forgave Bill for lying over and over under oath.

I have never met anyone who has not forgiven Bill for his sexual escapades.  But I have also never personally met anyone who has forgiven him for his lying under oath.

And I do realize that, even though it was 'Wee Wee Willie' who was impeached, that both 'parties have dirt', as you pointed out.

I have nothing much to add about Hillary.  I think her past record shows that she deserves the surname Clinton, for she seems to be just as slimy as the other Clinton that Emma wants "n the White House once again".  How many times did she get caught in a lie during her campaign?  Many times.  Guess she took lessons from that other Clinton.  I am thankful she got her future post, rather than winning in the Presidential race.  And I'm relieved that she was not given the VP position.  As many of us feared, if she had become VP, Obama probably would not have enjoyed his presidential office for long.

I am pretty sure that she will do fine in one of her new duties as Secretary of State, when she "ensures the protection of the U.S. Government to American citizens, property, and interests in foreign countries..."  Clintons have a history of providing protection for some Americans & their interests, usually in return for favors (or donations to their foundation).

Even though my dad spends lots of time helping the Democratic party, I dislike it - as I do the Republican party (which my mom supports), as you should know if you've read my other comments.  I have nothing against Obama.  I had planned to vote for him - until he chose the scumbag Biden as a running mate.  If something happens to Obama, Biden will be in charge.  I don't think my country would be in good hands in those circumstances.

                                                  Corie,

One of the traits that seem to get lost in the hostile scutiny is of President elect Obama is his ability to lead. During the campaign McCain and Palin both dismissed his earlier days as a community organizer (foot solider). I am hopeful that president elect Obama will once again get this country headed in the right direction and on the right side of history.  As I look at his cabinet being constructed I see wisdom, knowledge, leadership and a desire to serve.  One of the things I learned during my 30 year career as a Marine is that if you surround yourself with good people, and you will deliver great results. We will not get out of this recession with single minded mental midgets!.

You mentioned that Hillary was caught in a lie several times throughout the campaign. You are absolutely correct she was caught lying about the Bosnia trip, but at the same time I watched McCain and Palin distort the truth for political gain. So as I stated earlier both sides have skeletons.

The lesser of two evils, I would take Biden any day over Palin, and apparently the majority of Americans feel the same way.

I was one of those Regan Democrats that grew tired of my party and did not like the direction of the DNC. I think President elect Obama has adopted a group of Republicans that no longer can relate to the GOP platform.

Yes America Bill was what he was did what he did but if Hilary forgave him so can America. So get over it would you want to be reminded of your faults every funken day every day for the rest of your lives? No you wouldn't so funk off all of you who say things about this poor man leave him alone already can you? Live and let live. Remember "He who is without sin let him cast the first stone". Hilary did forgive him for the adultery.  So did many of us.  I doubt if the scandal over the lying under oath was forgiven.  Didn't we already give him a second chance, and a third chance, for the other times he wronged us..  How did he repay us?  By lying under oath.  Both he and Nixon seem to be cut from the same cloth.
